From Trinidad to the Phoenix Fire Department
Island Breeze's owner, Darrel, was born in Trinidad and Tobago and started HVAC training in high school. He moved to Arizona and graduated from Universal Technical Institute in 1997. Later he joined the Phoenix Fire Department, while also working for HVAC companies.
A side job that grew
With a fire department schedule of about ten days a month, Darrel began fixing his fellow firefighters' air conditioners in his spare time. Word spread until the work started to conflict with his schedule, and in 2019 he formally founded Island Breeze.
The fire department's ethos
Darrel brings the fire service's approach into the business. The company's goal is to care for customers "like they just called 911." Its stated values include integrity, teamwork, accountability and customer satisfaction.
